How to make App Store screenshots with device frames

By Phanith NY ·

To make App Store screenshots with device frames, choose a small set of app benefits, capture the real screens that demonstrate them and place those captures in Screenlume layouts. Edit the frames, captions and backgrounds, then check the exported dimensions against Apple’s current requirements. Image export requires Screenlume Pro.

How to make App Store screenshots with device frames — Screenlume guide

Decide what each screenshot should explain

Give each image one job, such as showing the main task, an important result or a useful secondary feature. A coordinated set is easier to review when every image contributes a different point. Do not repeat the same screen behind several broad marketing claims just to fill available slots.

Capture the actual app experience you intend to describe and remove private customer information from demonstration data. Use content you are authorized to show. A device frame is presentation around the capture; it does not create a working app feature or substantiate a claim about results.

Build the layout in Screenlume

In Screenlume, you can arrange iPhone, iPad and Mac frames, add captions, and adjust backgrounds, shadows, spacing and scale. Start from a single mockup or a coordinated App Store screenshot set, then replace its screenshots and text with your own material.

Keep the app content legible instead of allowing decoration to dominate it. For an illustrative three-image set, show the starting task, the useful result and a secondary workflow. Choose the sequence around your app’s actual workflow; this example makes no claim about conversion results.

  1. Choose the benefit each image should demonstrate.
  2. Capture the corresponding real app screens.
  3. Place the captures in an appropriate Screenlume layout.
  4. Edit captions and visual treatment, then inspect the set together.

Check export access and final specifications

The released description says all templates and editing tools are free, while saving or sharing completed images requires Pro. Check the current purchase screen for available plans and regional prices before making export part of a deadline. Available plans and prices should come from that current offer.

Apple publishes screenshot requirements by device category, including accepted dimensions and file formats. Check the requirements for the app and device sizes you are submitting. A frame preset or an attractive preview does not guarantee that the final file meets the current upload specification.

Review the files you will upload

Inspect the exported images rather than only the editing canvas. Check cropping, caption placement, app-content readability and whether the set tells the intended story. Confirm that the visible features and any purchase-related wording match the version people can actually use.

Screenlume documents editable projects and saved presets, which can help you update the set for a later release. Keep a note of the source captures and the purpose of each image. Publishing to App Store Connect and App Review approval remain separate steps; the mockup tool does not establish either outcome.
