How to track subscription renewal dates on iPhone

By Phanith NY ·

To track subscription renewals on iPhone, first confirm who bills each service and its next renewal date. Check Apple-billed plans in Settings under your name, then Subscriptions; check other plans with their billing provider. Add the verified dates to Subscription Guard and review the upcoming entries before relying on reminders.

How to track subscription renewal dates on iPhone — Subscription Guard guide

Start with the account that bills you

An app on your iPhone is not necessarily billed through Apple. Apple’s subscription screen manages subscriptions from Apple and those purchased through the App Store. For a service billed directly, use that service’s account or current billing information to establish the next renewal. Do not assume that an absent Apple entry means the service has ended.

For Apple-managed subscriptions, open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions. Select the relevant plan and inspect its status. Keep the billing provider alongside your own tracking notes so you know where to return if you want to change the plan.

Record the next date, not the day you noticed it

For each plan, collect the service name, charge amount and currency, billing cycle, and next renewal date. A monthly plan and an annual plan can renew in the same month while needing different entries. Use the date shown for that account rather than estimating from when you installed its app.

Check whether the date refers to renewal, trial expiry, or the end of access after cancellation. Those labels describe different events. If the next charge is unclear, resolve it with the billing source before treating a guessed date as reliable.

  1. Inspect the current plan at its billing source.
  2. Record the next billing date, cycle, amount and currency.
  3. Keep a short note identifying where you verified the information.

Build the list in Subscription Guard

Subscription Guard tracks entered subscriptions, recurring bills and renewal dates. Add a plan manually using the details you just checked. The app also supports importing an Apple subscriptions screenshot and reviewing detected entries before saving. Screenshot recognition can miss or misread information, so compare imported dates and amounts with the original.

Start with a few current plans rather than trying to reconstruct every past payment. After saving each entry, check its name, billing cycle and renewal date again. This creates a useful record without assuming the tracker has connected to the service or discovered changes in your account.

Use a three-entry check

Consider this fictional example: a music plan renews monthly on November 18, a storage plan renews annually on December 3, and a video trial has a separate end date. Enter each with its own cycle and verified date. Do not copy the monthly date into the annual record or treat the trial end as proof of a paid renewal.

Review the dates in order and ask what action each entry needs: keep the plan, inspect its current price, or decide whether to cancel with the billing provider. The example illustrates planning, not actual accounts or a test of notification delivery.

Check reminders before depending on them

Subscription Guard can schedule local renewal and trial reminders. The tracked entry must be active, reminders must be enabled, and notification permission is required. A calculated reminder time also has to be in the future; adding a plan after that time cannot produce an earlier alert.

Choose a reminder lead time that leaves room to review the provider’s terms and act. Keep a separate check for an important deadline rather than treating an alert as a promise that a charge will be prevented. Trial deadlines and cancellation rules belong to the billing provider.

Update the record when the plan changes

Update the entry after a provider changes its price, cycle or next renewal. A manual record can become out of date after setup. Reviewing upcoming plans regularly helps you notice details that need checking.

Tracking is separate from cancellation. Subscription Guard’s notification action for marking an item cancelled changes its tracked status; it does not cancel with Apple or another service. Make account changes at the actual billing source, then update the tracker to reflect the result.

Questions

Why is a subscription missing from my Apple subscriptions list?

It may be billed outside Apple. Check the service’s account and billing information. A missing Apple entry alone does not establish that a subscription has been cancelled.

Can Subscription Guard find every subscription automatically?

This workflow uses manually entered plans or reviewed screenshot imports. Do not assume the app discovers every account or monitors changes at your billing providers.

Does marking a plan cancelled stop its next charge?

No. That action updates the tracked record. Cancel through Apple or the service that bills you, then verify the account status there.
